US Warns China To Stop its Provocative Behavior Against Philippines in South China Sea

Antony Blinken, the United States Secretary of State affirmed that it is with Philippines defense to defend the country from the attacks in South China Sea. The US is under a 70 year old defense treaty with Philippines. The Secretary of State rejected China’s expansive attempt to control the waterways and sided with Philippines.

Tensions in China have risen this year also contested by Vietnam, Taiwan, Malaysia, and Brunei. Manila has accused Beijing of trying to terrorize its coast guard vessels. China is also accused of sending its maritime militia to crowd out the fishing boats of Philippines.

The U.S top diplomat said, it will enact the U.S – Philippines mutual defense pact if any Chinese so called “military militia” tries to threaten Philippines or takes action against the assets of Philippines in the region.He also Warns China that if its carries out any armed attack on the armed forces, public vessels, fishing boats, or aircrafts of Philippines dominating the South China Sea, the U.S would invoke the military defense pact under Article VI that is mentioned in the 70-year old mutual defense treaty of U.S and Philippines.

Blinken also Warns China to follow the international protocols and stop its agitating behavior in the South China Sea.The Permanent Court of Arbitration in 2016 had ruled that China is trying to control the waters of the South China Sea and infringing Philippines by carrying out activities such as building islands in Manila’s exclusive economic zone.
