The Latest Features in Snapchat Map Will Suggest Places to Visit

Snapchat has added a new place feature in its Inbuilt map. Nearly 250 million people use the built-in map to see where their friends are in the world. The map interface was upgraded to a main tab inside the app.

The company is adding a new feature that’ll surface popular places it thinks you may want to visit. Snap Map users will also start seeing lists of places, such as bars or restaurants, they’ve either tagged in past posts or favorited to check out.

The Popular tab at the bottom center of the Snap Map will show recommendations for places to visit based on facets like your current location, friend activity on the map, and the kind of places you’ve saved as favorites. A spokesperson said that this new algorithm in our Popular Tab sets SnapMap apart as a highly personalized discovery platform and is a first-of-its-kind feature for Snapchat. Snap recently reported that it has 293 million daily users, making its user base about 42% larger than Twitter.

Snap’s net loss narrowed to $152 million, from a loss of $326 million a year ago. The Q2 report did not break out the data into territories, but it did say Snap reached 90% of 13-24-year-olds in Australia, the US, the UK, and France.A study by Social Media Statistics Australia based on Snap figures noted, Snapchat has grown significantly in Australia and now has 6.3 million monthly active users and 4.5 million daily active users in Australia. In the third quarter, Snap expects to reach 301 million daily active users and year-over-year revenue to grow 58% to 60%, which would bring the company over the $1 billion mark.
